“His response was to fight it with the only weapons at hand—passive resistance and open displays of contempt.” ― Kurt Vonnegut, The Sirens of Titan
Former cop turned call girl Norma Jean Almodovar lives an average life. An LA girls life.
Because after the death threats, the constant attempts of entrapment, and having friends actually murdered or disappeared right here in America- what’s left
She takes care of her ailing husband, who suffers from prostate cancer, tries to keep up with housework- and gets herself, and her husband to and from doctors appointments; manages to shop for groceries.
And, when she isn’t fighting an army of computer hackers, government agents provocateurs who are on a string for feds or others, and rebuffing sex negative prostitution abolitionists who write entire blogs full of absurd lies- she writes grant proposals.
And tries to raise awareness of issues that actual American sex workers face from local agents of social control, and entire international movements of prostitution profiteers who conflate sex trafficking with ‘women’s choice.’
Issues like rape, the homicides of friends and “people who know too much,” and more- the stuff that movies are made of.
Not an easy day by any stretch of the imagination. But add ongoing attempts by agents provocateurs who seek to entrap her, or the many women she speaks for- and days just get harder.
But it’s all in a days work for a woman who insists that you call her a ” whore” ; a woman who has been interviewed by reporters and film makers from around the world- most recently from China, where womens rights are not mere privileges.
Because after the death threats, the constant attempts of entrapment, and having friends murdered or disappeared right here in America- what’s left?
The writing is all there is, and then they burn the books- or cook them.
* Norma Jean prefers the term whore, over any other moniker. She considers it a badge of honor.
