“His response was to fight it with the only weapons at hand—passive resistance and open displays of contempt.” ― Kurt Vonnegut, The Sirens of Titan
ARMY STRONG: Since 2011, the US Army and many more agencies create sockpuppet accounts and trolls themselves, lol. They also actively disrupt internet communications and especially target non-conformist or dissenting narratives.
Who’s yo’ “free speech” Daddy?
UPDATE: The original author of the piece named herein has expressed her disagreement with my interpretation of her apathy, going so far as to claim that my opinion is “harassment.” In no way do I wish to imply that author is part of the problem, or that she is herself indeed one of these agency level trolls, or otherwise misrepresenting her situation; nor cause the apathetic to feel harassed, but rather, to cause critical thinking, which is a targeted asset in every propaganda conflict.
That author asserted that only “the Chinese” are nefariously repressing their citizens by infiltrating citizen dialogues and employing trolls and bogeyman scenarios to manipulate online discourse.
In fact, the United States and the Five Eyes Alliance is it too, and doing far worse, and is likely practicing mind control online.
“The US military is developing software that will let it secretly manipulate social media sites by using fake online personas to influence internet conversations and spread pro-American propaganda.
A Californian corporation has been awarded a contract with United States Central Command (Centcom), which oversees US armed operations in the Middle East and Central Asia, to develop what is described as an “online persona management service” that will allow one US serviceman or woman to control up to 10 separate identities based all over the world.”
Guerilla Marketing study?
The “Do Nothing” approach to online harassment, brought to you by Alexis Chateau* (and many many more people who find no value in non-commercial “free speech.”): How to ensure the internet remains a zone of impunity for intelligence agency trolls from the NSA, the UK’s JTRIG, and a host of “community groups,” “organizers” local Fusion Center trolls, and private military contractors-while creating positive PR for your blog, generating buzz, and increasing hit counts with free PR.
My propaganda comeuppance and phony internet harassment claims = free publicity for causes, people, institutions.
When I hear about internet harassment, I must admit, my eyes look at it in a jaded way: I am well aware of how information, and disinformation work together to create “buzz” and drive-by social policy.
So, I admit: I am skeptical of this authors claim for many reasons, not least of which is that she is willing to allow copyright infringement of her own work- I smell PR in the making.
From Alexis Chateau’s blog:
“As this was a fellow WordPress site, I considered taking action, not because of their overt racism, but because they had republished my articles without my permission.”
Sure. Do nothing, it will be just fine….
Many years ago, I was involved with a racist, co-opted movement in Hollywood California called HARM, Hollywood Anti-Racist Mohawks, as in “we will harm you if you are racist.”
It was notoriously famous in it’s own small way for getting one racist concept into the American vernacular. That concept was “anti-racism.”
The loosely affiliated organization included even more loose affiliations with people like Henry Rollins, Jello Biafra, and many more ‘punk rockers.’
It also included ex-military propagandists, petty criminals, drug addicts, and many many police informants that kept an eye on the Hollywood scene.
There was “Mike” aka “Michael Fernando” a black ex-marine from the unruly ghetto’s of Santa Barbara CA, and “Wild Style” who once tried to stab me based on race alone; and “Pedro” who had fled some charge or other in Atlanta in order to establish a new life in CA.
Michael was a piece of work- who most notably used the phrase ” If you’re gonna steal, steal books.” He always had his eyes glued to a page, when he wasn’t kicking Skinhead asses on the Blvd.
And Pedro, 6’2″ and “strapping”who I met in the post-Bukowski bowery- one of two men I have ever known who, upon meeting him, instantly put up his fists and tested my boxing chops. on sight. He had come to LA to become, as he said, Jewish, because “black wasn’t the answer.”
He eventually circumcised himself.
If there was one thing that was positive or noteworthy from that era that carried forward to this one, it was that the word “anti-racism” made it’s way into the vernacular-and became an entire social movement. That’s not a bad thing, really- all of our cans of spray paint and hand drawn leaflets; our cartoonish idealism scrawled, written and sprayed on the alleys and sidewalks worked.
On the other hand, like so many co-opted social movements (as we see with today’s Black Lives Matter movement) it was destined to fall inward upon itself and devolve into a finger pointing de facto statement of racial supremacy of one kind or another, which it did.
But somehow, anti-racism remains a noble idea- if we could just get the supremacists out of it.
And regardless- if you do only one thing today- DO NOTHING about how our modern propaganda stream is co-opted at every corner; and BEFORE it ever appears at the site where speech emerges into the public’s eye- at the crime scene of your own fingertips as you type, oblivious to how close to, and inside of your own home your internet is subverted.
And in fact- the current assault on free speech in America begins even closer to home: at the site where the small electrical charge from your body leaves your fingertips, and touches a screen on your Iphone or tablet- and certainly, on your own blog. Unless, of course, there is another agenda….
*Ms. Chateau makes several claims about her encounter with so-called KKK many of which are not reputable at the time of this writing. One of the claims is that the links to the blog White Alliance do not work or are otherwise suspicious.
You can test this yourself, but I don’t recommend it because this method of gaining free PR is disingenuous in the least and dishonest from the start. Here is that site, which I do not recommend:
While working on my blog last week, I noticed a curious little detail in my traffic referral stats. Three visitors had been forwarded to my blog from a website called the White Alliance Nationalists.
As a Black Caribbean woman who writes extensively on issues related to race and social equality, you can imaginethe confusion I experienced in that instant.
“Oh great,” I thought jokingly. “The KKK finally has me on their hit-list.”
Curious to know the truth, I followed the referral link, which took me to my own ‘author’ page on a KKK website. There, I found that two of my articles about my trip to Vans Warped Tour had been copied word for word and republished. They had even given me full credit for my work.
